The Coaches
YOUR
TEAM
Real coaches with real experience. Not fitness influencers with a certification. People who have lived the grind, hit walls, rebuilt, and came out the other side — and now exist to help you do the same.
TY
GUNDLACH
Co-Founder, District 507
Ty Gundlach's relationship with fitness started not in a gym, but in competition. He began training at age 12 — a foundation built through years of disciplined work that eventually led to a career in the fitness industry spanning over nine years.
During the pandemic, Ty transitioned from his work in the Twin Cities to running a training operation out of a friend's facility in Menomonie, WI. From there, he stepped in to manage a struggling Snap Fitness location in Kenosha, WI — and turned it profitable.
Today, Ty's focus is bodybuilding and being present at District 507 — on the floor, in the community, committed to the culture he built. You won't find him behind a desk. You'll find him training.
"We didn't open this gym to make money. We opened it because Rochester needed a gym we'd actually want to train in ourselves."
— Ty Gundlach
MARIA
GUNDLACH
Co-Founder, District 507
Maria Gundlach stepped on stage for the first time in July 2023 — and discovered her purpose. The process of preparing for bodybuilding competition, the discipline it demanded, and the transformation it created lit a fire that hasn't gone out since.
That experience gave her something rare: a firsthand understanding of what it truly takes — not just the training, but the nutrition precision, the mental battle, the physical sacrifice, and the extraordinary reward of stepping on stage knowing you gave everything.
Today, Maria's focus is her own bodybuilding and being a constant presence at District 507. She's in the gym every day — competing, improving, and leading by example. She's not taking on coaching clients, but her presence is felt in the culture of the gym she helped build.
"Stepping on stage taught me what I was capable of. That's what I bring to this gym — not a program, but an example."
— Maria Gundlach
JAY
OZUNA
Head Coach · District 507
Jay Ozuna's story is one of the most honest in fitness. He began weightlifting young, driven by competitive wrestling — a sport that demanded year-round training and discipline. Despite the hard work, he struggled to gain weight. He hovered around 113 pounds throughout his wrestling years, held back not by lack of effort, but by a lack of proper nutritional knowledge. He was constantly told to "just eat more." No one ever actually taught him how.
After high school, Jay stepped away from training entirely. He found himself in an unhealthy place — physically and mentally. The loss of several close family members compounded everything. He reached a turning point where something had to change before things spiraled further.
A close friend stepped in. He took Jay under his wing, reintroduced structure, accountability, and discipline into his life — and pushed him to train alongside him during competition prep. Jay was forced outside his comfort zone immediately. Through intense training, proper nutrition, and nonstop education, he committed fully to the process.
In six months, Jay gained over 40 pounds — reaching 160 pounds and feeling better than he ever had. His energy, focus, confidence, and mindset all transformed. But more importantly, he found purpose again.
As people began noticing his progress and asking for guidance, he realized that helping others improve their health, confidence, and mindset was the most rewarding thing he had ever done. That realization is what led him to pursue a career in fitness — built on education, accountability, and creating real, lasting change through training.
"I know what it feels like to be in the worst place of your life. And I know what it feels like to build your way out of it. That's the only qualification that actually matters to me."
— Jay Ozuna, Head Coach
KELSEY
CARY
Personal Trainer · District 507
Kelsey's fitness journey didn't start in the weight room — it started in a college Exercise Science program. She learned through coursework, but even more through trial and error. Post-graduation, life threw curveballs — unhealthy habits, diet struggles, and outside forces working against the progress she was chasing in the gym.
She never let those setbacks stop her. Instead, she found her place in bodybuilding — and hasn't looked back since. The structure, discipline, and transformations hooked her immediately. The grit required to complete a show prep is unlike anything else, and she wants every client to experience even a fraction of that reward on their way to their own goals.
She believes the best trainers meet clients where they're at and match their effort — then push them past their comfort zone to reveal just how strong they can be. Fitness is non-linear, just like life. Her approach: make it fun, celebrate every win, pivot when needed, and never stop moving forward.
"It's a mental game as much as it is physical. Having the right support and guidance is a real game changer."
— Kelsey Cary, Personal Trainer
